edlyn clevenger

a music act

Hello, this is Edlyn Clevenger, welcome to my website!

The music I’m showcasing here comes from within as I think about my surroundings, my place, and that of others. The sound is female vocals accompanied by mostly octave mandolin, and keys. It originates spontaneously, when I’m listening carefully out and about, or playing around with my instruments. I’ve labeled it “folk”, with various tags, “alternative”, “experimental”, “acoustic”. I’m hoping you listen to it, or come see it, and let the music speak for itself.

The core of my songs, represented on my album, were born during the 15 years I was working Wilderness trail crew in the summers, and riding in the winters. These songs are expressed on mandolin, as it traveled well with a full pack on my back. Most of my time in those days was spent in places with no electricity, helping me to focus on the subtle details of every sound I made, driving creativity in what I could do with just me, the strings, and that wooden body.

I’m expressing my new songs on keys so far. I had always wanted a real piano and achieved that several years ago; a forgotten beauty, tuned to the vibrations of the universe. The complex and rich sounds of this piano have guided the melodies and techniques of these new songs. Sadly I can’t bring my piano to live shows, so I’ve been translating them through my Korg SV-1. This adds an electronic component to my long time solely acoustic set. Not sure how I feel about this yet, but really enjoying sharing the piano songs.

I’ve built these songs to create opportunities to wield resonance, to challenge irreverence, & to have a boat to float the wild waves in. They are my warblings of the serious, silly and interesting things I see from here.

I’ve been told by a handful of generous souls, that their experience with my music is transcendent. That this music can be a vessel for more than just me is inspiring. Going there together is all the better. I find immense joy in creating these songs, and even greater joy in fully embodying them. The greatest joy of all is stoking satisfaction, catharsis, contemplation, peace, and love for those that are listening.

I hope for the honor of sharing my music with you.
